The selection process for the Odisha Police Sub-Inspector (SI) recruitment conducted by the Odisha Police Recruitment Board (OPRB) consists of a multi-stage process designed to test academic knowledge, mental ability, physical fitness, and medical suitability.

1. Written Examination Pattern

The written stage is conducted via Computer-Based Recruitment Examination (CBRE) or OMR mode, featuring multiple-choice questions (MCQs).

• Marking Scheme: Each correct answer carries +1 mark.

• Negative Marking: Deducts 0.25 marks for every wrong answer.

• Paper III (Special Requirement): Candidates applying for the Station Officer (Fire Service) take an additional Paper III (Technical Paper) of 200 Marks (180 Mins) covering +3 Physics and Chemistry.

2. Selection Process & Stages

Stage I: Written Examination

Candidates must secure cut-off marks in Paper-I and Paper-II to qualify. Candidates are shortlisted for physical tests based on written merit (typically 3 times the number of vacancies).

Stage II: Physical Tests (PMT & PET)

Note: Both the Physical Standard Measurement Test (PST/PMT) and Physical Efficiency Test (PET) are qualifying in nature. No marks are awarded for performance in these rounds, but failing any event leads to disqualification.

• Male (General / SEBC): Height: 168 cm | Chest: 84 cm (unexpanded) / 89 cm (expanded)

• Male (SC / ST): Height: 163 cm | Chest: 81 cm (unexpanded) / 86 cm (expanded)

• Female (General / SEBC): Height: 155 cm | Weight: 47.5 kg

• Female (SC / ST): Height: 150 cm | Weight: 45 kg

Physical Efficiency Test (PET)

• Running:

  • Male: 1.6 km in 8 minutes

  • Female: 1.6 km in 10 minutes

• Long Jump:

  • Male: 3.66 meters (in up to 3 attempts)

  • Female: 2.77 meters (in up to 3 attempts)

Stage III: Viva-Voce / Interview & Document Verification

• Viva-Voce Status: In recent recruitment patterns, Viva-Voce (Personality Test / Interview) has been abolished for Odisha Sub-Inspector recruitments to ensure objective merit-based selection. Final selection is purely based on the marks secured in the Written Examination, subject to passing PET/PMT.

• NCC Weightage Marks: Candidates holding NCC Certificates earn bonus marks added directly to their written scores:

  • NCC ‘C’ Certificate: +2 Marks

  • NCC ‘B’ Certificate: +1 Mark

• Document Verification: Original documents (Educational Certificates, Caste Certificate, Resident Certificate, Sports/NCC certificates) are verified alongside the physical ground test.

Stage IV: Medical Examination

Shortlisted candidates undergo a medical checkup (vision, hearing, color blindness, flat foot, knock knees) before final appointment joining.

3. What Selected Candidates Receive

Upon selection and completion of basic training, candidates receive:

• Designation: Sub-Inspector of Police (Group-B Executive Non-Gazetted)

• Pay Scale & Pay Matrix: ORSP Rules Pay Matrix Cell 1, Level 9 (Basic Pay starting at ₹35,400 per month)

• Allowances:

  • Dearness Allowance (DA)

  • House Rent Allowance (HRA)

  • Special Duty Allowance / Risk Allowance

  • Kit Maintenance Allowance & Uniform Allowance

  • Medical Reimbursements and Pension Scheme under NPS

• In-Hand Starting Salary: ~₹45,000 – ₹52,000 per month (depending on posting location and prevailing DA rate)
